marriage

Marriage is hard work, but should be well worth the struggle.  As I was reading a book recently, my eyes were really opened with these statements… Love is sacrificial.  Love gives itself without waiting for others to give.

We are not to keep record of who did what first or who comprimised more.  Instead, we are to ask ourselves what do we want people to do for us, then grab the initiative to do these things for them instead.  (paraphrases from the message Matthew 7:12)

heroes

May 18, 2009 · Leave a Comment

So I am sitting here browsing the web while Matt watches the Extreme Makeover Home Edition and it is about heroes.  This got me thinking about what really makes someone a hero.  It seems to me that it is simply doing something outside of yourself beyond your ordinary means to impact the life of someone else with pure motives.  I know that sounds like a mouthful, but I bet if we all worked harder at living a life more like Jesus, we would find that we too are peoples’ heroes because they will then see Him instead of us.  I don’t know about you, but I sure want my life to mean something and more importantly to impact someone else’s life so that they have the drive and opportunity to impact another life and so on and so on.

You know you are a parent if…

May 17, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Let me rephrase that…You know you are a parent of small children if:
1. It is only 11am and you have already changed everyone in the household at least three times due to spit up, juice spills, finger paint that went a bit crazy, or a sad attempt to get the carrots into the baby’s mouth.
2. You baby is throwing cheerios on the floor but you are too tired to care
3. Your toddler is grinning at you with peanut butter all over her face while she is resting her head on her arms.
4. You have said the same directions over and over and over.
5. You can’t remember why you walked into the kitchen to begin with.
6. And finally, you know you have young children when you are praying for lunch to be over so nap time comes not so you can finish the laundry that is piling up or to sweep the cheerio covered floor, but so that you too can catch some ZZZZ!

Happy Mother’s Day

May 11, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Happy Mother’s Day (one day late!) Yesterday is a day that is set aside to celebrate mothers and what they mean in out lives. I must say that I enjoy the times of the day where I was able to lay guilt free on the floor playing with Cohen while Matt cleaned the kitchen. However, I will also admit that I enjoyed going to Piggly Wiggly and buying my own special meal to cook for our family and my mother in law. I enjoyed not penny pinching on the groceries and upgrading to filet mingion. I also later enjoyed eating it! All this to say, this Mother’s Day I really realized the importance of taking the time as a woman to value yourself and to sometimes treat yourself to something nice and some guilt free time of just playing with the kids even if the sink is full of lunch dishes. So whether you are a mom or not, take some time to enjoy yourself and the life that God has given you. It really is worth it!

Face in the mud

May 7, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Yesterday I felt as though I had fallen over my own two feet and landed face down in the mud.  As you may know, my profession is a teacher, but this year I have sometimes allowed the circumstances of the job suck the joy out of what I do.  Yesterday I realized that not only have I overlooked opportunities of joy, but I have also not been the advocate for my students that God put me in their lives to be.  I am more concerned about a book report than the fact that children are being neglected and put in adult situations daily.  It is time I take my face out of the mud and do what God made me to do!  It is time I stop looking at the things of the day and instead look at how I can impact the children’s here and now as well as their future.  I mean really, who really cares about a fifth grade book report thirty years from now??
