I was speaking to a friend about this the other day and I was reminded about it just now when cleaning out the baby’s high chair. I mentioned to her that God doesn’t want to pour great things into us on top of unhealthiness. For example, you wouldn’t want to eat your favorite dessert on top of a sour stomach. Well when I was cleaning out Cohen’s high chair, I was thinking about all the good food gone to waste because he is such a messy eater. You know that reminds me of all of God’s blessings that I have “wasted” because I can be a “messy eater.” So isn’t it about time we purged ourselves of anything not Godly so that He can fill us with what is new and good, also making sure to find our spiritual mouths when God is blessing us.
weeds

This morning while the kids played on the swing set, I tried to do some gardening. In all honestly, I am terrible at it. It seems that I have more weeds than plants growing in the garden. Well, I also apparently have lots of trees who have taken root in my flower bed. it got me thinking about Christianity. See it is easy to neglect our relationship with Jesus and allow weeds to grow. Weeds are terrible and thorny buggers who stick you and hurt you when you try to remove them from your spiritual flower bed. Trees though are a bit different. See I found that even though I pulled and pulled I was not able to remove them all because over time I kept cutting back the growth, but never pulling out the root. Now they have rooted themselves so deeply into the garden that I will now have to ask for help from someone stronger (Matt) to help me remove these things. Isn’t that also true with our relationship with Jesus. See the more we let things take root that shouldn’t be there, the less likely we will be able to pull these things out without help from someone wiser and stronger. I really thing that this is where a mentor and accountability partner really help. An accountability partner is great for weeding and even pruning, but a mentor or someone wiser really can help you get back on the right track by helping you rip those pesky trees out of the ground. It is funny though with my gardening skills. It seems I can get trees to grow in my flower bed, but not in the ground where I plant them. ; )
